2018 Annual State Convention

The South Carolina State Conference, NAACP’s Annual Convention & Civil Rights Conference is set to convene in North Charleston, South Carolina on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the North Charleston Marriott Hotel. This event continues to be a primary source of training in the methods of effective nonviolent advocacy for grassroots leaders and volunteers. The Civil Rights Conference has become known as a premiere venue for citizens to network with experts representing a variety of disciplines. We provide local citizens key resources they can use in reshaping public policy to better serve our increasingly diverse society.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS

Make sure you are staying at the host Marriott during the state convention.  Our group rate will end at 5:00 PM local time on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.  Contact Debbie Brown, rooms coordinator, at 843-266-1223 or use the online link at https://bit.ly/2uUGvi1.  Notify the State Office promptly if you experience any challenges.

REGISTRATION EXTENSIONS

The Early Bird Registration deadline has been adjusted to Wednesday, September 26, 2018.  Also, the Pre-registration period will begin on September 27th and close on October 3, 2018.  These adjustments will help those impacted by the recent hurricane.  Please take advantage of these opportunities to secure the best rates.  You may also register online at http://scstateconvention2018.eventbrite.com.

CONVENTION AWARDS EXTENSION

Due to Hurricane Florence, the deadline for adult and youth award submissions has been extended to 6:00 PM on Wednesday,  September 26, 2018.  Submissions must be received by this deadline at the State Conference Office, 6111 North Main Street, Columbia, SC 29203.  Don’t forget the awards for volunteer service and faith partner support.  Digital submissions (preferred) must be emailed to awards2018@scnaacp.org no later than 6:00 PM EDT on the deadline.

DELEGATE CREDENTIALS

We anticipate distributing the credential forms to the unit secretary of record sometime next week.   The secretary should prepare a form for each Delegate and Alternate elected to represented the unit.  After the secretary signs each credential form, she/he must and obtain a counter signature from the local president and return the forms to the State Conference as directed.  All forms should be returned submitted by October 3, 2018.
